Windmill

We finally got our windmill up and running!!!

Stacy spent quite a bit of time digging out and forming the foundation for the windmill. The bolts had to be exactly 5’3” apart and square.

We also added a lot of rebar and had the corners go down about 3.5 feet.

Next was concrete! Our favorite labor-intensive work! But the windmill tower will fail before the foundation will!

Hugh Grim and his son came up to install the windmill. Here they are assembling the tower on the ground.

They used a rented 42’ reach forklift to hoist the tower in place. Stacy’s hard work paid off as the tower fit perfectly on the bolts in the concrete foundation.IMG_1285
Next they hoisted the motor in place! So exciting to see it go together!

Hugh attaching the motor to the tower. Note the safety harness he is wearing.

After the motor was connected, they connected the well to the windmill with a wood pump rod (straight-grain Fir).

Soon the wind started blowing and we had water! So nice to not have to pump it manually now!
